Toronto FC chief Johnston admits failed bid for De Guzman

Toronto FC chief Mo Johnston has revealed they've been knocked back by Canada international midfielder Julian de Guzman. De Guzman is off contract from Deportivo La Coruna, but isn't yet ready to move to MLS.

"It wasn't about the money," Johnston told The Star. "It was about playing against Real Madrid and playing against Barcelona."

However, Johnston would not rule out a future move for one of Canada's best ever products.

"We did everything we could as a club to bring him home," he said. "I've got no doubts that he'll come back here in future years."
