Toronto chief Leiweke: 'There is a great appetite in the US' for Premier League games

Toronto FC president Tim Leiweke is confident that there is massive potential for playing Premier League games in the USA.

England's top flight continues to ponder the idea of adding a 39th league fixture to be played abroad with Asia, India, South Africa and the USA among the possible destinations.

Speaking at the Leaders in Sport conference in London, the president and chief executive of TFC's owners Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, said playing Premiership matches in the US would certainly be a popular choice such has been the success of past friendlies involving English clubs.

"In the US the friendlies have been spectacular, I think the fans know now that the gamers that count are more meaningful so I would say there is a great appetite in the US for this," said Leiweke.

"It's a big debate and it's one that's need to be decided by leagues and fans and even players."
