Torino president Urbano Cairo says there was no chance of denying Alessio Cerci his move to Atletico Madrid.
Cerci signed for Atletico before deadline day.
"The negotiations for Cerci were closed only on Sunday morning," Cairo revealed.
"It was not automatic that we were going to sell him, but he asked me, whilst thanking me, to let him go.
"It was his desire, even if we did not want to say it in a clear manner with the market open. I tried to keep him by saying we would talk about this again, I was hoping to be able to convince him.
"From the sale of Cerci, Torino has made 15m, of which five per cent will be deducted. A total of 14.25m plus a bonus that isn't certain, of about 1m.
"We accepted the offer because there was big pressure from the player, and we agreed to those figures.
"Again, there were texts from the player, always balanced and polite, of course, but very firm."
