Toni satisfied with form after Italy Euros exit

"I was happy with my tournament before this game, as I can score or not, but the important thing is for the team to go forward," said the striker who failed to net.

"After tonight I am above all upset and disappointed, as we had a great chance to reach the semi-final and I couldn't help them do that by scoring."

The quarter-final with Spain went to penalties, the Iberians winning 4-2 after Iker Casillas saved from Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Di Natale.

"We are very bitter, as unfortunately penalties can give you great joy or great pain. This is football.

"It was a hard-fought game and I don't think Spain were any stronger.

"This squad has worked well over the past two years and qualified with a good performance against France, but when it's head-to-head like this anything can happen.

"Now I am cheering on my Bayern Munich teammates and hope Germany can go all the way."
