Thwaite wins Gold Coast United player of the year

Michael Thwaite has been named Gold Coast United's Player of the Year for the 2010/11 season.

The 27-year old vice-captain was his side's most consistent player as the second-year club reached the Preliminary Final, going down to Central Coast Mariners.

Thwaite played predominantly as a central defender but was often used in a more advanced role through midfield and took over as captain from Jason Culina late in the season when the midfielder was out with injury.

Fellow centre-half Dino Djulbic, who recently signed with Chinese club Shaanxi Chanba, was named the players' player of the year whilst Bruce Djite snapped up the Golden Boot award for his ten goals.
