Former Newcastle United winger Alan Thompson sys his old club needs to splash out during the summer market.

Looking ahead to next season he sees only major investment as the way forward.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "Definitely. Any club wants to progress.

"If Newcastle want to progress next season they are definitely going to have to spend in the summer."
