Thommo urges Hodgson to give Dalglish bigger Liverpool role

Phil Thompson believes new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson should give Kenny Dalglish a big role in his new season plans.

Former Liverpool captain Thompson believes Dalglish can provide an important link between Hodgson and the boardroom and avoid the tensions that marred Rafa Benitez's spell.

"Kenny does a very good job as an ambassador and at the academy, but he should be used better than that," Thompson told the Daily Express. "He should be allowed to help Roy, to help the chief executive Christian Purslow and bridge that gap between Melwood and Anfield. That will help the club.

"There was too much of a gap over the last couple of years. That is what I thought Kenny was being brought in for. But he wasn't being used in what I believe was the right manner.

"I hope he spends a lot more time at Melwood than he has done. When he is there, he can put smiles back on the faces. Players of all ages look up to Kenny. He lifts everyone. Maybe that was missing in the last year."
