Inter Milan president Erick Thohir says every one's position at the club is under review.
Whilst reports have been of Mazzarri, sporting director Piero Ausilio and director general Marco Fassone all being assured long term of their roles, Thohir has hinted otherwise.
"Are they all confirmed no matter what? No, because they are all under scrutiny," Thohir told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"And to explain this concept better, I say that also under examination is [former DC United CFO Michael] Williamson, who I wanted as head of human resources, financial and legal aspects.
"It is right to have confidence in everyone, but also that each will answer for their actions.
"This, however, should not be misunderstood. I'm currently very satisfied with the work of the people who I have nominated.
"But I must make continuous checks with everyone. Mazzarri has another year of his contract, but he is the first to know that further planning will be required.
"The last time I was in Milan I told him how important it will be to plan, but also to remain focused on the present."
