Inter Milan president Erick Thohir admits the club is in "transition".
Inter have struggled for results in recent weeks.
"We are now entering a period of transition," Thohir said.
"Ideally, the average player should be aged between 24 and 26 years. This does not mean that the heroes of the 2010 treble are not appreciated, but it is clear that even younger players must be incorporated into the squad.
"In the current squad there are many players in certain roles and fewer in others. We need to create a balance between the departments, so that they are neither too full nor too empty.
"For the next two to three years, it will be difficult. We want a healthy club, we look to the example of the English clubs, where they have been able to manage their revenue so as to increase it and in this way, buy great players."
