Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been thanked by the Argentine press for publicly supporting Angel Di Maria.

The £60m winger, 27, hasn't netted a Premier League goal since the first week of October.

But LVG insists: "The first season is always difficult.

"For me it is not a big surprise, it is more a big surprise (if) he (had) adapted as quickly as possible."

Di Maria is a hero in Argentina and Van Gaal's words went down well with the country's press.
