New Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra says the club's successful academy setup will remain a cornerstone of it's future.

Thaksin told City's website: "Yes, it is a fantastic stadium and training ground. I also went to see the Academy at Platt Lane and spoke with Jim Cassell and his team.

"The Academy is a major attribute to the Club and I will fully support it. I would also like to see the Academy expand globally, with centres set up across the world, to find the best football talent for Manchester City."
