Peter Reid could be set be a sensational return to Sunderland.
The Daily Star Sunday says Reid is also being seriously considered for a return to Sunderland by chairman Niall Quinn - possibly alongside Sam Allardyce.
Reidy was manager of Sunderland for seven years, from 1995 to 2002, when Quinn was one of his players.
During that period, he became Sunderland's most successful post-war manager in terms of league position, twice leading the club to seventh-placed finishes in the Premier League.
It's also been revealed that he almost returned to the club to assist Quinn before Keane's appointment almost 28 months ago.
He recently returned to management with Thailand's national team and is currently involved in a tournament in Phuket.
Reid has already won his first competition for Thailand, the T and T Cup, a three-country tournament involving North Korea and Vietnam.
But significantly, he has a get-out clause in his contract and could return to Sunderland in a caretaker capacity until the end of the season or even to work alongside Allardyce, his former Bolton team-mate.
