Thailand boss Reid confident of Suzuki Cup victory

Thailand national coach Peter Reid believes he has the squad to take out the Asian Football Federation's Suzuki Cup which commences on Friday. The former Manchester City and Sunderland boss is confident of winning the nation's fourth Suzuki Cup and although the Group B matches have been shifted from Thailand's capital of Bangkok to Phuket, Reid believes support for his side will be ardent.

"It is a massive, massive, tournament in this region and the teams are very competitive," Reid told The Bangkok Post.

"But I have to say that we have got as good a chance as any team to win the tournament.

"Obviously, you want to play in the capital where the fans are fervent," said Reid, who took over as coach of the national team in September.

"But it is not a problem playing in Phuket. The lads will be focused and I am sure the supporters down there will get behind the national side.

"The players have done ever so well," said the former England international.

"We have done running work, we have done aerobic work and we have done some weight sessions. We have had a mixture.

"The players worked really hard. I do not like saying it but they are looking decent at the moment. A couple of players, Sutee Suksomkit and Nattaphong Samana, have joined us recently and they have added to the depth of the squad. It is a competitive squad and it going to be difficult to pick a first 11. It will be a stronger team than we had in the T&T Cup in Vietnam (which Thailand won)."
