Terry: SWP's Mourinho showdown saved Chelsea career

Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed how showdown talks between manager Jose Mourinho and Shaun Wright-Phillips saved his teammates' Blues career.

"Shaun has been awesome from day one of pre-season," said Chelsea and England captain Terry. "There was a lot of speculation about him over the summer, which he didn't really like.

"I was in contact with him and he said that once he got back to pre-season he wanted a chat with the manager.

"He wanted to tell Jose that he loves it at Chelsea and to let him know that he wanted to stay, fight for his place and show him what he can do.

"The manager liked that and said he'd see how it goes and, fair play to Shaun, he has been different class. I said in pre-season he looked the sharpest out of everyone and that is a credit to him because he has worked hard and kept fighting."
