Under pressure England skipper John Terry had a comfortable evening in the 1-0 success over Sweden in the friendly international at Wembley, which was probably the best he could hope for with all the controversy swirling round the Chelsea defender. He told ITV 1: "I've always believed - and we've shown over the last couple of days - that we can compete with the best teams. Players came in who are fighting for their places and they've done themselves justice. If we can carry on this momentum for the next six months then things will be even better."
And when asked about his own situation following the controversy surrounding an investigation into alleged racial abuse, he added: "I would never step down as captain. It's something I dreamed of as a boy. I've worked very hard to be here and I'm very proud to be England captain."
