Chelsea captain John Terry is amazed that the club let midfielder Joe Cole leave.
The Blues did not renew Cole's contract at the end of the last Premier League season, leaving the England international to find a new home, and the decision was completely lost on Terry.
"It still amazes me how the club have come to the conclusion of letting Joe go. But that is another chapter. At the same time, we are disappointed with him going. But he can surely do things whether he starts or comes on for England," he said.
"Obviously I would probably be biased to Joe. He is obviously a great player and stuff. But when things have not gone well it is easy to look at other players who could come in now and do a job.
"Listen, Joe is ready if he is called upon. He is eager to play. We saw that at Chelsea. He was a great boost for us, coming back from his injury, and it was the right for Chelsea for him to come back into the side.
"He got a great goal away from home at Manchester United, which proved to be vital. He's one of those players, he gives everything on the training field or if he starts. He makes himself available.
"I personally think he and Wayne are the only two who can open up things and open up defences. If he's called upon, Joe will do a great job."
