Chelsea boss Avram Grant admitted earlier this week that the Dutchman was among the names on his shortlist as he looks to bolster his backroom team.

Ten Cate has previously stated he is content in Holland, at least until the end of the season, but it appears he is moving closer to a switch to west London.

It has been reported Ten Cate has agreed a three-year deal, but he insists he will only leave should Ajax and Chelsea reach an agreement.

He told RTL4-television: "There has to be a solution between Ajax and Chelsea.

"If that doesn't happen I will stay with Ajax and otherwise there is a chance I will leave."

A Chelsea spokesman confirmed a statement would be made on Monday.
