New Chelsea assistant coach Henk ten Cate says he's come to London because he believes they can dominate Europe.

He said: "I was attracted here because it's a big club and I like to work with a team who are able to win titles and prizes. I think this team is capable of doing this. But Chelsea lacks a little history in terms of winning the European Cup. My previous clubs had lots of European titles but this is a club that still needs to do so.

"Sometimes you have to be lucky to be in the right place at the right moment and I think that this can be the situation for Chelsea. They came for me at the right time for them and it was the right moment for me.

"So hopefully it's going to be a very strong partnership, which will finally end with us winning titles."

Ten Cate hinted that the way Chelsea played under Jose Mourinho was cautious and he is keen to change Chelsea's style. He said: "You should not be afraid of losing. Nobody can guarantee me that if you play defensively you win more games than if you play offensively. There is not a strict rule for that, it's just the case that a lot of people are afraid of losing games.

"I think that if you go into a game, you should do it with the intention of winning. There is a big difference between that and going into a game trying not to lose. This is my philosophy, to go into the game and try to win it."

Ten Cate added: "You have to combine your players' skills to form a way of playing which is fun for the player and attractive for people to watch.

"We have the players here to do that - every player has his own qualities, every team has its own characteristics and we still have to find out what the exact characteristics of the Chelsea players and the team are. To the crowd we are like the performers. If you go to the cinema you want to see good acting. So if you go to a football game, you want to see good, attractive football that's fun to watch.

"The biggest compliment we got at Barcelona for winning the Champions League was not holding the cup, but that almost everyone knew and spoke about the football Barcelona played at that time. "That is a goal to achieve but it takes a lot of work - it took us three years and, along the line, sometimes you lose games.

"But as long as the people are pleased with your performance, you can lose a game here and there because you are unlucky. If a crowd has seen a good performance, they'll go home happy. "Even if the game wasn't won they see the quality of the team improving week by week and in the end they'll have a winning side playing attractive football."
