Taylor wants to end career at Birmingham

Golden oldie Maik Taylor has revealed his desire to end his career at Birmingham ahead of Sunday's Second City derby with Aston Villa at St Andrews.

The Northern Ireland number one is in the final year of his current deal with Blues and any potential new contract has been put on ice until the takeover of the club by Carson Yeung is completed.

But 36-year-old Taylor, who joined City from Fulham five years ago, is keen to extend his stay with the midlands club.

Taylor said: "I feel great, I feel as fit as ever. I feel as sharp as ever. I feel I could play for a few years to come yet. As long as I enjoy training, then I'd like to carry on.

"Playing matches is not going to be a problem but, if ever I feel I don't fancy training, then that is probably the time to hang up the boots.

"Would I like to finish my playing days at Blues? That would be fantastic. I really enjoy it here.

"I'm in the last year of my contract but the family are settled here and it would be great if we could sit down and sort something out.

"Obviously there are a few changes with the possible takeover at the club but, once that is out of the way, I'll sit down with the manager, see what his thoughts are and see if he still wants me around."
