Taylor out to be Reading No1

Reading goalkeeper Stuart Taylor is out to establish himself as No1.

Now 32 and in a goalkeeper's peak years Taylor wants to make up for lost time by helping the Royals stay up, starting with today's relegation six-pointer against his old club Aston Villa.

He told the Daily Star: "As a young lad I always set myself targets and reached them until I got to 24 and then it all started to dry up a little bit.

"Then you start looking at yourself and thinking 'am I slipping away here, am I doing what I can be doing?'

"My next target was becoming a settled no.1 at a club. It didn't end up working out that way but you don't know what's around the corner.

"You could end up playing and starting and stay in the side and become a no.1 There is still time for me to do all that. Even though I'm 32 I still want to get better.

"Not only do I want to do well for myself but also for the club because they have taken me on and you want to try and give them something back.

"We are in a relegation scrap at the moment and Villa is a massive game as they are down there too and if we can get three points then that would be massively important.

"At the moment it's looking like I might get a couple of games which would be nice. If I get the nod I do but if not, then I will just do what I have always done."
