Steven Taylor hopes Newcastle United pals Michael Owen and Steve Harper can settle their contracts.

The defender told Sky Sports: "I know there are a few other players now waiting for their contracts to be sorted and it is important that important players like Michael Owen and Steve Harper get theirs sorted out because we have a small squad.

"Our squad is small, but there is plenty of quality there.

"I would rather have a smaller squad with quality rather than a large squad with not so much quality so at the moment we will take what we have."
