Taylor happy to play anywhere for Wigan

Ryan Taylor is happy with his new role at Wigan Athletic under manager Steve Bruce.

Taylor scored a stunning 64th-minute free-kick winner in a shock 1-0 victory over a woeful Newcastle side at the JJB Stadium that lifted the Latics out of the Premier League relegation zone.

It was only Taylor's second goal for Wigan, with his first back in February, and quite remarkably it was also a free-kick in a 1-0 home win over Newcastle.

But while Taylor was happy to field questions from the print media, there was no way he was going to stand in front of the cameras to speak about his heroics.

"I chipped a front tooth after biting into a sweet on Christmas Eve," revealed Taylor. "As the dentists have been shut I've been unable to do anything about it.

"Until it gets done I won't do any television interviews because I look like Jim Carrey's character (appropriately called Lloyd Christmas) out of 'Dumb and Dumber'."

Right-back Taylor was forced to play out of position on the left wing due to the return of captain Mario Melchiot to the side following his completion of a three-match ban.

That mattered little to Taylor who is happy new boss Steve Bruce is prepared to play him anywhere such is his faith in his ability compared to previous manager Chris Hutchings.

"Playing on the left wing is different and it's obviously not my natural position, but then it's nice just to play. I don't mind playing anywhere," revealed Taylor.

"But I feel now I'm playing a part that maybe I could have got if given a chance when the other manager (Hutchings) was here.

"But Steve has showed great faith in me, putting me on the left, and even he is happy with where I'm playing."
