Tavernier determined to soon make Premier League bow with Newcastle

James Tavernier is hoping he is soon given his Premier League debut for Newcastle United.

The versatile 20-year old defender made his fourth Magpies appearance in Wednesday night's Capital One Cup loss at Manchester United and with some injuries to Alan Pardew's defence, he is keen to make the most of his opportunities.

"There's a lot of games coming up with all the European games," he told The Journal.

"Maybe at the moment my best chances are in the full-back positions (with Danny Simpson and Ryan Taylor injured), but if an opportunity comes at centre-back, I'll take it with both hands.

"I'm hoping for a chance. Every game that comes along - European games, cup games - I've got to keep working hard in training to get my chance in them.

"Hopefully I can get a Premiership start. I'm really working hard at that. "I feel like I'm a really versatile player and I really enjoy wherever I play."
