Gerardo Martino is no panic solution for Barcelona following the departure of Tito Vilanova last week.
AS says Barca president Sandro Rosell has had 'Tata' Martino in mind for some time in the event Vilanova was to leave and only circumstances brought the plans forward this week.
Rosell has discussed Martino with sports director Andoni Zubizarreta and Lionel Messi and both men were pleased with the choice.
Former Newell's Old Boys coach Martino tidied up details by video conference with Barca directors over the weekend and has agreed a two-year deal with the option of a third.
Newell's president Guillermo Lorente let the cat out of the bag last night when revealing: "Martino will leave to coach the best team in the world."
The Argentine could be presented to Barca fans tomorrow before the friendly against Bayern Munich and take charge of first team matters when the squad travels to Oslo for their mini tour.
