TalkSPORT bans Twitter over Collymore abuse

TalkSport have announced they will no longer discuss Twitter posts on air in protest against the lack of action taken by the social media company over abuse aimed at Stan Collymore.

The former Liverpool striker had called on Twitter to take swift action against users who sent him death threats and racist abuse after discussing Luis Suarez's penalty against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Talk Sport chief executive Scott Taunton says "we are dismayed at the lack of response and perceived inaction by Twitter. Racist or abusive messages of this nature are illegal and unacceptable."

On the station's website, Taunton said Twitter won't be mentioned during broadcasts "until we are satisfied that Twitter is doing its utmost to prevent abuse of this nature."
