Sydney youth Jennings set to join LA Galaxy after praise from Beckham

Australian teenager Leroy Jennings is set to sign a one-year deal with MLS champions LA Galaxy.

The 13-year old Sydney young gun recently played in a trial match in January when the Galaxy were in town and impressed the clubs youth academy so much that they offered him a contract.

Jennings, the cousin of Penrith NRL star Michael Jennings, recalled one of the incidents during the match which may have made him standout to Galaxy superstar David Beckham.

''I tackled him [Beckham's son Brooklyn], I got the ball and had to play on,'' Jennings told the Sydney Morning Herald.

''It was two seconds of glory. After the game, the director of the youth academy asked [David] Beckham who were the stand-outs and he replied with me."

He added: "At first I didn't really think it was a call back. Maybe just a chance to pop in [to LA] again for training every six months, but that night when my coach informed me of what they wanted, it was hard to sleep.

"The whole experience is overwhelming, I'm trying to remind myself that I'm actually playing soccer with LA, one of the best teams in America.''
