Sydney scrape passed gallant Newcastle

Sydney FC has returned to the winners list, edging out an unlucky Newcastle 2-1 in A-League action this afternoon. Sydney FC 2 Newcastle Jets 1 Scorers: M.Bridge (SFC) 26th, M.Thompson (NJ) 37th, S.Corica (SFC) 55th penalty Crowd: 10,357 An under-strength Sydney FC side scored it's first win in three matches despite the absence of five key players, with John Aloisi, Terry McFlynn and Stephan Keller out due to injury while Karol Kisel fell ill prior to the match. Also missing was Kofi Danning who is on Young Socceroos duty.

The Jets ended the match with 10 men after Tarek Elrich was sent off in the 90th minute.

Sydney striker Mark Bridge, enjoying a rare start, gave his side the lead in the 26th minute with a brilliant long range finish, but Newcastle were soon back level with Matt Thompson scoring in the 37th.

Bridge won Sydney a penalty soon after the break which Sydney veteran Steve Corica cooly slotted home for the winning goal.
