Sydney FC goalkeeper Ivan Necevski believes that his time spent playing second fiddle to firstly Clint Bolton and then Liam Reddy has made him a better player.

The 30-year old has fought his way back to grab the number one keeping position at the Sky Blues in the past month and he feels that the continual battle to overcome his counterparts has led him to this point.

"It's been a learning curve for me, but I think in the long run it makes you a tougher person and a better goalkeeper," he told the Penrith-Press.

Necevski has started the last four matches for Sydney and performed well, perhaps bar last week's 3-1 loss to Gold Coast United, and he plans to turn that four and his A-League tally of 20 (17 with Sydney and 3 with Newcastle Jets) into a much higher figure.

"I'm 30 and I think I am in the prime of my goalkeeping career," he added.

"I think I have another 10 years of goalkeeping ahead of me.

"The next couple of years I'm looking to play as many games as I can for Sydney and be as successful as I can.

"I'm supported by my family and I love doing them proud."
