Sydney's Cole, Newcastle's Griffiths return for final round

Sydney FC and the Newcastle Jets do battle in the only 'dead rubber' match of the final round of A-League action for 2008/2009. The Jets cannot finish any better than bottom whilst the Sky Blues can finish as high as fifth but as low as seventh depending on other results so it is basically a nothing game in relation to the other three.

Sydney welcomes back Socceroo squad member Shannon Cole from injury along with marquee player John Aloisi, young striker Adam Casey and defender Matthew Jurman whilst Zach Cairncross will have to wait until next season to show his wares again after being suspended for two weeks.

In the Jets camp, departing defender Adam Griffiths will play his final match for the club after returning from suspension and youngster James Virgili has been included in the squad after representing the national U18 side at the Youth Olympic Festival.

The Jets have never beaten Sydney away from home so despite the fact it has no bearing on the finals, it stil promises to be an interesting match, expecailly with both sides having nothing to lose.

The match at Sydney Football Stadium will also be a farewell for Sydney first team regulars Iain Fyfe, Robbie Middleby and Jacob Timpano although Middleby will be unavailable for selection because of injury.
