Marc Janko scored the winner for Austria in their Euro2016 cash with Moldova on Thursday night before later being sent off.
The 31-year old striker, who recently joined A-League club Sydney FC, headed home in the 52nd minute to give his side the lead in Chisinau prior to seeing red with seven minutes of regular time remaining.
Earlier, Bayern Munich full-back David Alaba had converted from the penalty spot after Ion Jardan had pulled back Janko in the area before Moldova tied it up just before the half-hour mark courtesy of an Alexandru Dedov spot-kick.
Janko then nodded home Alaba's corner seven minutes into the second half before he was given his marching orders for a foul on Moldova keeper Ilie Cebanu but despite being with ten men for around ten minutes, Austria managed to hold on for a win.
Marcelo Koller's side now sits third on the Group G table with four points from two matches ahead of Sunday's home meeting with Montenegro in Vienna.
