Sydney move to top of A-League table with win over Wellington

Sydney FC have moved to the top of the A-League after a patient 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix. The Sky Blues had to wait until deep into the second half before giving the crowd what they wanted and eventually ran out comfortable winners.

In a tentative struggle, both sides could not find their way through the opposing defences until the 77th minute when substitute Brendan Gan got on the end of a Karol Kisel corner and fired his header home, past Phoenix keeper Reece Crowther to break the deadlock.

Four minutes later, the home side went further ahead after Alex Brosque took a run and sent in a floating ball for John Aloisi, who nodded it into the back of the net.

The win sends Sydney to the summit of the competition, overtaking Gold Coast United who suffered their first defeat to the hands of Newcastle Jets today whilst Wellington drop to seventh after the loss.
