Sydney FC's marquee man Nick Carle will return from a six-week absence for this weekend's Week 10 A-League clash with rivals Melbourne Victory. The former Crystal Palace midfielder has missed the past four matches with a broken toe but will play some part on Saturday night at Etihad Stadium as the Sky Blues strive to get their first win of the season.
Sydney coach Vitezslav Lavicka confirmed Carle was back but was unsure as to what type of role he would play against the Victory.
"Nicky is back after a long-term injury and we're all happy about this. We're delighted he's available because he's a key player. We need to decide whether he will start or begin on the bench," the Czech tactician said.
Lavicka also said that past performances against Saturday night's opponents, including last season's Grand Final win, would have to be put aside.
"We're staying positive and together we can be successful. We haven't changed the philosophy. We will continue to work hard," he added.
"We have great memories against Melbourne, but this is history now. The players are confident, we're chasing that first win but all of us know that we're a good team."
