Sydney FC record vital win over Perth Glory

Sydney FC have moved off the bottom of the A-League table with a 2-0 win over Perth Glory at Parramatta Stadium this afternoon. The Sky Blues were the better of the sides throughout the match and managed to score twice late, through Shannon Cole and the league's new third-highest goalscorer of all time Alex Brosque, to climb up from 11th spot and heap more misery on the Glory who were consigned to their tenth match of the season.

Perth were unlucky not to score in the 1st minute when Michael Baird's header from a Jacob Burns free-kick was going goalward but some smart intervention by Sydney captain Terry McFlynn denied them a perfect start as he was able to clear off the line after the ball evaded Sky Blues keeper Ivan Necevski.

Minutes later, the home side went close when McFlynn forced a top-shelf save out of Tando Velaphi with a well-struck shot from the edge of the area in what was a very exciting start to the match.

Sydney continued to attack and again almost scored, this time in the 25th minute, when Alex Brosque drag it slightly wide of the mark in his 100th A-League appearance.

GOAL The match remained nil-all until the 75th minute when Shannon Cole received a perfect through ball from Brosque after a great run from deep and he finished with a first-time shot across Velaphi to make it 1-0 and give Sydney a deserved lead.

GOAL Six minutes later, Brosque turned scorer when Hiro Moriyasu's pinpoint ball created space for the striker and he rounded an advancing Velaphi before sliding into an open goal to wrap up the points in a rather dull match overall.
