Sydney FC look to Asia as finals are now unlikely

Reigning A-League champions Sydney FC have the Asian Champions League to look forward to after essentially missing out on the finals this season.

The Sky Blues gave up a two-goal lead over the Central Coast Mariners to eventually draw 2-2 yesterday which has them seven points out of the top six with just four matches left in their regular season.

It would take a miracle for Vitezslav Lavicka's men to qualify for the play-offs as teams above them have games in hand, prompting captain Terry McFlynn to set his sights on Asia's premier club competition whilst trying to play positively in the final weeks of the domestic campaign.

"We will keep going to the end," McFlynn said. "We have the Asian Champions League to look forward to.

"The last four games have been better from us so we will build on that heading into the Champions League."

Sydney's 2011 ACL season kicks off on March 16 and will have them pitted against Japan's Kashima Antlers, China's Shanghai Shenhua and Korea's Suwon Bluewings.
