Sydney FC install McFlynn as club captain

Reigning A-League champions Sydney FC have announced midfielder Terry McFlynn as the new club captain.

The 29-year old Northern Irishman has taken over from veteran Steve Corica who retired last season but McFlynn takes the job not without some experience after taking the armband for last season's Grand Final in the absence of Corica and John Aloisi.

The former QPR man admitted it was a fantastic honour to be given the ultimate leadership role at a club he loves so dearly.

"It is great honour to be named captain of Sydney FC. We are a very close group, we work well together and we have prepared well for this season to date," McFlynn said.

"I am really looking forward to the upcoming tournament and then facing Melbourne at home to start the A-League.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Sydney and it is an exciting time for the club. We have a massive season ahead of us with 30 A-League games and then Asian Champions League so I am very excited about that. It will be a big challenge but one we are prepared for.

"It is also obviously special for Brosquey and Foxey too. Like I said, we are a very close group; we work for each other and have a family culture so to be the captain of a club like that is very special."

McFlynn's deputies are striker Alex Brosque and veteran defender Hayden Foxe.
