Sydney FC firing on all cylinders

Sydney FC's quality of football over the last month has coincided with the welcome return of key players who had been missing earlier in the season for various reasons. Injury, suspension and international duty have kept important players out of A-League matches and now most of these players are fit and available; it will only add depth to a squad that remains undefeated so far in the 2008/2009 season. After disposing of third-placed Adelaide United 3-0 on the weekend, coach John Kosmina believes that his side still has more improvement, and with a record of three wins and two draws, it sounds an ominous warning to the rest of the competition. He said, "You always have to strive to be that one step better. That is what the team is doing at the moment and we have been progressing week by week, but it all counts for nothing if we get on the plane to Wellington on Friday afternoon and forget about what we have to do to get a result over there." "I think that we have another twenty or thirty per cent in us. I think there were a lot of times where we could have got in around the edge of the box that we didn't. We also turned the ball over a couple of times a little bit too easily. So when you take all of those out of our game then we will be at our peak." Goals from Irish midfielder Terry McFlynn, star striker Alex Brosque and the ever-improving Brendan Santalab saw the Sky Blues take maximum points in front of just over 12,000 at the Sydney Football Stadium and sees them second only to Melbourne Victory on goal difference. Sydney travels to New Zealand to take on bottom of the table Wellington Phoenix on Sunday afternoon.
