Sydney FC appoint new chief executive

Sydney FC have named Danny Townsend as their new chief executive, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

Townsend, who joins from data company Nielsen Sports, will bring with him a wealth of experience from the international sports industry, media and entertainment sectors.

He officially replaces Tony Pignata on 7th October, the date of Sydney FC's opening game of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season.

Townsend, a former professional soccer player himself, played a critical role building Repucom, a global leader in sports measurement, evaluation and intelligence, which Nielsen acquired in 2016. In 2015, the Australian was recognised by the Sports Business Journal as one of the 40 most influential global sports executives under the age of 40.

"I am delighted to announce today the appointment of Danny Townsend as our club's new chief executive," said Scott Barlow, chairman of Sydney FC.

"Danny is a first-class appointment with the experience and background to help drive our club to the next level. Our club has achieved impressive growth and success in recent years but there is no doubt most of our growth is still ahead of us.

"We believe Danny is the right person to help us maximise our huge potential over the coming years. Danny has a track record of success internationally with excellent links in the football and corporate world but he also understands the Sydney sporting landscape."
