Swindon accept likely Everton move for Tozer

Everton scouts were in the stands to cast an eye over Ben Tozer during Saturday's dramatic 3-2 victory over Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup.

The young defender impressed during a three-day trial at Goodison Park last week, and Everton were keen for him to turn out for their reserves before he was recalled to the County Ground.

Caretaker boss Dave Byrne is well aware that if Tozer continues to progress at his current rate then it will be difficult to prevent him from furthering his career at a higher level.

"He's a Swindon first team player now," Byrne told the Swindon Advertiser.

"We sent him up there so he could sample the atmosphere and have a look at what's available to him should he continue the route he's on.

"I've known all along that he has the capabilities. He just needed to be given the opportunities.

"As long as he continues to listen and do what we ask him to I don't think he will be a Swindon Town player for long.

The player himself admits that he would love to be play in the Premier League one day, but for now his focus remains on helping Swindon push for promotion from League One.

"I came back with no regrets," Tozer said.

"Apparently they were happy with me and they came to watch me on Saturday.

"But even when I was at Everton I was thinking about getting back here to Swindon."
