SWANSEA v NEWCASTLE RECAP: Swans open account by seeing off ten-man Magpies

Swansea City recorded their first win of the season by beating Newcastle United 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis, who both scored in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea last week, fired the Swans to a comfortable win over the visiting Magpies who lost Daryl Janmaat to a red card four minutes before half-time.

Gomes hit the target first in the ninth minute when the recipient of a defence-splitting pass from Jonjo Shelvey, which allowed him to round Tim Krul, and slot home into an empty net.

Dutch defender Janmaat received a second yellow card for bringing down the crafty Jefferson Montero in the 41st minute which gave the Swans further impetus to kick on and double their lead seven minutes into the second half.

Monitor raced down the left before pinging a cross to the front post which saw Ayew rise above his marker and emphatically head home to send the Welsh outfit to fifth spot in the standings with the Toon 15th having secured a point from their opening day draw with Southampton.
