Swansea star Sinclair: I would still be Chelsea player if Mourinho stayed

Swansea City winger Scott Sinclair feels he'd still be a Chelsea player if Jose Mourinho had stayed.

After being farmed out to six clubs on loan, he finally decided to quit Stamford Bridge for the Severn Bridge as he joined his former reserve boss Brendan Rodgers at Swansea in a £500,000 deal last summer.

Sinclair, who supports the FA MARS Just Play scheme, said: "Had Jose Mourinho stayed at Chelsea, then I would probably still be there. He signed me for the club and gave me my first-team debut for them.

"He encouraged me a lot and gave me a lot of confidence.

"But after he left, it was harder for me to get into the team. Sitting on the bench or playing in the reserves was frustrating. I went out on loan but that only made me realise just how much I really wanted to play first-team football.

"Some people said I should stay at Chelsea but all I wanted to do was play. When Swansea came in for me, I simply jumped at the chance. I obviously knew Brendan from Chelsea and it was great to feel wanted by him.

"Some said that I was mad for deciding to leave a top Premier League club.

"But leaving Chelsea to join Swansea was right for me at the time."
