Swansea skipper Williams: Israel draw shows how far Wales has come

Ashley Williams suggests the Wales national team has come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years.

The Dragons sit on top of the Group B table in Euro2016 qualifying having won five and drawn three of their eight fixtures.

Israel held Wales to a 0-0 draw in Cardiff on Sunday, in a match which could have seen the Welsh through to their first major tournament since 1958, leading Williams to believe that it is now they who are the hunted.

"I think it shows how far we've come that people are coming here and are happy to get a draw out of it," said the Swansea City and Wales skipper.

"It shows the respect teams have got for us.

"It was a frustrating game for us. We felt a little bit down afterwards for some reason, but you know it's important to remember what's happened.

"Israel made it very difficult in the second half and especially towards the end of the game.

"We felt a bit leggy from the other night and the flight so we didn't really have it in us to push on and get the goal.

"I'm sure when we go home in the week we can enjoy this. It's been a good week — four points from any two international games is a good return."

Wales are one point ahead of second-placed Belgium with two qualifying matches remaining which come in the form of an October 10 trip to Bosnia & Herzegovina and a home clash with Andorra three days later.
