Swansea skipper Williams implores Monk to remain

Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams hopes that manager Garry Monk's head isn't turned by interest from other clubs after leading the Welsh side to their best points total in the Premier League.

Monk has led Swansea to a record point haul of 53 which has the Welsh club on course for their best finish of eighth in England's top flight.

The 36-year old former defender is a contender for the Manager of the Year and has been linked with the likes of West Ham United and Sunderland but Williams has urged him to stay put at the Liberty Stadium and not follow in the footsteps of previous managers Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers who have left after impressing.

"It would not surprise me if there is interest in Garry, we seem to lose a manager nearly every year," said Williams.

"But from my point of view I think this is the perfect place for him to work and learn his craft at management."
