Swansea's Monk eager to 'taste' Europe again

Swansea City are gunning for at least a top-seven finish this season as they chase European football.

The Welsh club find themselves eighth on the Premier League table but are in with a chance of sneaking into a Europa League position following Chelsea's Capital One Cup win on the weekend.

Europa spots for England could fall as far as seventh if a team up the top wins the FA Cup which has given Swans boss Garry Monk a slight whiff of what could be ahead for his side.

"The club will always want progression. I want that, so do the players and the fans," said Monk ahead of Wednesday night's trip to Tottenham who sit in seventh place, four points clear of Swansea.

"The overview is that we had a taste of Europe last year, everyone enjoyed it and, of course, you'd love to get back to that.

"But I only look at the next game and my next agenda is 47 points. I spoke to the boys straight after the Burnley game about that. That's our best total since we've come into the league and that's a target for us now.

"We have to focus on that and we'll use it as motivation, and whatever happens rest of season happens."

Swansea defeated Burnely 1-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday to notch 40 points which is generally a strong mark for avoiding relegation.
