Swansea's Monk close to optimum fitness

Swansea City captain Garry Monk says he is closing in on full fitness after struggling last month with a foot injury.

The 32-year old was forced to play three matches in September for the Swans, who have been experiencing a defensive crisis, and ahead of the clash with Norwich City this weekend, he says he is nearing his peak after a frustrating run.

"I am getting stronger with every game I play," he told the South Wales Evening Post.

"Against Stoke I felt better than I did against Chelsea, and against Chelsea I felt better than I did against West Brom.

"I am not far off now, and hopefully I will be pretty much there when we play Norwich.

"It's always good to be playing games and I am enjoying being in there, especially when we are getting some good results.

"And I just want to stay injury-free and keep things going now. I want to play my part in getting us safe from relegation as quickly as possible.

"I have noticed the injury in games, usually when you get past the hour mark and you are fatiguing a little bit.

"That's when the power seems to be going in the foot a little bit, but I am getting stronger all the time and hopefully I am nearly over it completely."
