Swansea pushing to close deal for Lyon striker Gomis

Swansea City are pushing to land Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

The Daily Mail says Swans have tabled an offer in the region of £8.5m for the 27-year-old, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract, but while the club record fee is likely to be enough, Gomis's wages could prove problematic.

His current package is worth £3m a year, some way beyond Swansea's wage structure which currently allows for a maximum basic salary of approximately £35,000 per week.

It would take a contract heavy with bonuses, as has been Swansea's tradition in recent years, to offer Gomis parity with what he already earns, while the matter is complicated by the reported interest of big-spending Monaco in the player.
