Swansea midfielder Sigurdsson denies claims of Monk rift

Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson denies claims of a bust-up with manager Garry Monk.

The Iceland forward played a critical role in leading his country to next year's European Championship finals in France and was quoted in an interview with futbolti.net claiming that Monk neither congratulated him nor the club's Welsh contingent, who sealed their own qualification last month.

Sigurdsson said: "I would like to point out that it was not important for me to receive a text from the manager to congratulate me on qualification.

"More importantly, he did indeed congratulate me face to face when I returned from national team duty after having played Holland and Kazakhstan.

"I simply did not choose the right words to answer the question I was asked in the interview, which created this unfortunate misunderstanding.

"I am very happy at Swansea and my relationship with the manager is very good. I have good communication with him, as do the rest of the players."
