Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins would favour giving interim manager Garry Monk the job fulltime.
The Daily Mail says Jenkins is willing to see if the 34-year-old sinks or swims in the short term - starting with Cardiff City on Saturday - before deciding if an external appointment is necessary to get Swansea out of the mess they find themselves in.
The club would only announce that Monk will take charge for the 'foreseeable future' when he was elevated from the playing squad in the wake of Michael Laudrup's sacking on Tuesday evening.
But such is Jenkins' confidence in a player who has served the club for nearly 10 years, and was key in their promotions from League Two to the Premier League, he is believed to be keen for Monk to have a real shot at the job.
