Swansea captain Williams: Carroll not that good

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams was sparing in his praise of West Ham United striker Andy Carroll after Saturday's defeat.

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams was sparing in his praise of West Ham United striker Andy Carroll after Saturday's defeat.

He bullied Swansea into submission until his red card – even if Williams was hardly gushing in his praise of a forward who will go to the World Cup if he maintains this form and fitness.

“I don’t think he’s so much above everyone else,” said the Wales defender. “I think he’s as good as the best. Very good.

“But he’s actually head and shoulders above everyone physically. Sometimes if the ball is high enough he’s going to win it. There’s not much you can do.

“I’ve never seen a player who can jump out of the sky. You stand next to him and he’s that big.

“Is that enough to get you to a World Cup? I’m not sure it is.”
