Swansea brace for Wigan bid for Rangel

Swansea City fear an approach from Wigan Athletic for fullback Angel Rangel.

The Spaniard was signed for the Swans by Latics boss Roberto Martinez while in League One.

With Mario Melchiot now gone, Martinez is in the market for a new right-back and the South Wales Echo says Rangel could be in his sights.

It would leave a realistic value of around £1.5m on Rangel, which would both fit into Martinez's budget and give the Swans board food for thought, especially as the defender could leave on a free next summer.

Rangel is also known to be very keen to move up into the top flight and, with Martinez looking to strengthen the squad that secured Premier League safety late last season, he could view Rangel as just the right type of player to fill Melchiot's boots.
