Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers believes Ashley Williams will surprise critics this season.
Rodgers believes the Wales star, 26, who has attracted interest from QPR this summer, can take the top flight by storm.
He said: "Talks are at an early stage, as Ashley has two years left on his deal. But he is a player we want to secure and also bring up to speed with his wages.
"He has done remarkably well for this club over the last few seasons. Ashley has been consistent and he will certainly earn his money this season.
"We want to ensure he is on a par with others in the squad, as he is important to us."
